The K-BL Everyone's Binge-Watching: The Prosecutor's Proposal

A Korean BL that opens with a murder, not a meet-cute — and it's now #1 in Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and beyond. The Prosecutor's Proposal, adapted from Hebok's hit BL webnovel, is streaming in Korea on Wavve, in Japan on FOD, and elsewhere on iQIYI, with its finale airing July 24.

Based on a 2023 Webnovel

The Prosecutor's Proposal is adapted from Hebok's completed BL novel — five volumes, rated 4.8 stars by more than 5,500 readers on Ridi. Fans waited about three years to see it come to screen.

A Crime-Investigation BL

Rather than building the story around a typical BL setup, The Prosecutor's Proposal grafts it onto a crime thriller instead — a serial case, real stakes, and a slow burn that grows inside the investigation, not around it.

The Relationship

At the center are Joo Tae-sun, a prosecutor of eight years, and Lee Chae-ha, a rookie investigator who has carried the "murderer's son" label his whole life. The two are forced partners on a case tied to a murder from fifteen years ago — a partnership built toward the truth, and toward the proposal at the end.

Main Cast

Park Si-woo — from boy group BLANK2Y, in his first leading role — plays Lee Chae-ha. Kim Yoon-sik, known for Twenty-Five Twenty-One and Hospital Playlist 2 among others, plays Joo Tae-sun, a brilliant, cold prosecutor hiding his own motive in the same office, the same case.

Made by BL Specialists

It's produced by Studio Oak Company, a fast-rising BL house whose earlier titles grew into Asia fan-meet tours. Director Yang Kyung-hee is one of the genre's most trusted names, with past hits that topped charts in Korea and Japan — a BL specialist's project through and through.

From Korea to the World

The Prosecutor's Proposal is #1 on Wavve in Korea, #1 on FOD in Japan (top 5 overall), and #1 on iQIYI in Vietnam, with bus-wrap ads to match. In Europe and North America it's the #1 Asian drama on iQIYI. It's also top 3 on friDay in Taiwan, top 3 on GagaOOLala for global BL, and #1 and #2 trending on Xiaohongshu in China. New episodes air every Friday, ten episodes total, with the finale airing July 24.

A prosecutor and a rookie investigator, a fifteen-year-old murder, and a genre that usually opens with a meet-cute instead opening with a body — that's the hook that took The Prosecutor's Proposal from a 2023 webnovel to a #1 drama across five countries.
